This medieval hilltop commune overlooks the incredible Loire river and it's rolling vineyard parcels, offering a simply breathtaking, everlasting impression.
It's world famous Sauvignon Blanc sets the standard for which all Sauvignon Blanc must attempt to live up to. It's lesser known Pinot Noir makes red wine which, at it's price point, more than contends with Burgundy. The same grape also produces some extraordinarily complex rosé, which can be kept far longer than many assume is possible.
It could be said that the town of Pouilly-Sur-Loire itself seems somewhat ordinary in comparison with neighbouring Sancerre; however the same can certainly not be said of its Sauvignon Blanc wine.
Comprising of varying soil types, Pouilly Fumé vineyards are thought to produce equally as high quality Sauvignon Blanc as Sancerre; if not greater!
And whilst the commune itself is thought to be visually unremarkeble; its wine producing Chateaux set within rows of vineyards are not only simply stunning, but serve to emphasise a characteristic not available in Sancerre.
The advice for Sauvignon Blanc lovers is that if you are given the opportunity to visit both communes then take it!
Travelling from Paris?
Vierzon is the ideal pick-up point for those travelling from Paris.
Trains regularly leave from Paris Austerlitz, Paris Bercy and Paris Montpernasse 1 & 2 stations, arriving directly to Vierzon Ville in an average of 1.5 - 2hrs.
Your guide will be waiting at Vierzon station to collect and deliver you to some of the most stunning vineyards and classic fairytale French communes you could imagine.
